I would never have bought it for myself because I had the same thinking as you that Sauvage is an overly worn fragrance, and mostly by 15 year olds wannabe Mike O'Hearn.I think Dior’s Francois Demachy knocked it out of the park with the Sauvage line. Well ok perhaps except with the Parfum - Chanel beat them there with the BdC Parfum. But Elixir was Francois Demachy’s swan song response. 😍 In regards to popularity, I’m going to enjoy my bottles in a few (maybe many?) years when Sauvage is rare.He doesn’t want women to know he is a freak. But Johnny Depp’s signature fragrance (Sauvage) saved him. Sold his creed, YSL, PDM. all garbage flooding his shelves to make room for the king, and the only thing he needs. Sauvage saved him. I also have Armaf Hunter Intense which is a mix of Invictus and Dior Sauvage in the drydown , but after maceration there is more going down - like mixture of more blues , even trails of YSL Y or Dylan Blue I have bought Ajmal Zeal for my father which is supposed to be closer to Sauvage EDT - he gave me a small sample of it and it seems legit .
Lol, a lot of contemplation went into those numbers, basically the idea behind it was that 9 being the peak of designer perfumes and 10 being the peak of niche fragrances, sauvage is good, just not the best designer fragrance ever good.I actually think the contrary. Dior is a household name and marketed like crazy unlike many Niches like Roja, Amouage, etc. I think if the general public were going to spend their money, they would go with a easily recognizable name such as Dior .Considering that Dior, Chanel, and YSL fragrances are rarely discounted, there aren’t many people you see or meet on real life that are going to wear Sauvage, Bleu De Chanel, or Y EDP. People love to save money and don’t see fragrances as worth the money as everything else.

Dior sauvage has always been my scent since 2018. I do wear different colonge but Dior stood out with me with the Johnny dep adds and the first time smelling it was amazing! But I will say I’ve had every Dior sauvage except the elixir and the parfume did not stand out to me. The best ones were the EDT and the EDP.It’s a common notion in the fragrance community that Dior Sauvage is an over worn fragrance that most guys wear or have worn before. I personally feel like it gets the job done, and is easy to wear in almost every situation.It’ll probably be a classic that people will wear for decades, like Cool Water, Aqua di Gio, L’eau D’Issey, Fahrenheit, etc. Amazing to think how many fragrances Dior has knocked it out of the park with: Eau Sauvage, Fahrenheit, Homme and all . Sauvage really wasn't meant to be some artistic expression of perfumery, it was supposed to be a mass appealing and versatile scent for the general public. In that regard, it is exceptionally successful. In the general public, it is very easy to love.
What was funny, dior sauvage was my only blind buy in 10 years of fragrances. I sprayed it for a couple of days and couldn't handle it so i gave it to a friend who liked it. I will probably sample the elixir though.
